Today was all about preparing for Vesak celebrations. It is celebrated by hanging homemade lanterns around the house and possibly several fairy lights in different colours across the trees and surrounding structures of the house. The young children in the village made skeletal structures of Vesak lanterns so I can decorate it using colourful 'Saw Kola', which are thin sheets of tissue paper.
I spent majority of the day pasting 'Saw Kola' on our lanterns, so that they will be ready to be hung on time, in two days. I must admit this was quite nostalgic to me, as Vesak remains to be one of my favourite celebrations.
In the meantime, my host was preparing 'Kavili', traditional Sri Lankan sweets that are always consumed during any festival or celebration in Sri Lanka.
