Day 14 - Watermelon

Despite the exhaustion from returning home after another night of staying up and guarding the paddy fields with my host, I rushed to look at the progress of the watermelon vines. For the past few days, I have been eagerly waiting to see baby watermelons.

As I was walking around the patch, I was thrilled to see several small watermelons the size of lemons hidden among the leaves of the vine. I have never seen watermelons that small, and it made me reflect on how little we know about the food we buy from supermarkets and farmers markets in the city.
